Schneider Promotion & Transport

DTM 2013: Efficient and fast truck rental from a single source across Europe.

Challenges: Fast and efficient availability of reliable forklifts at home and abroad at the DTM

Solution: Germany and international rental fleet by STILL

STILL products: STILL Rental, RC 40, RX 70 Hybrid

Whether it's a matter of days, weeks or months, necessary to execute on short term decisions or for long term strategies, rental trucks increase productivity and liquidity of companies for future investments. The event logistics provider, Schneider Promotion & Transport, also makes use of rental trucks during the German Touring Car Masters (DTM). In 2013, the mobile event equipment from Audi was set up and removed flexibly and quickly at the different race tracks in Europe with the help of the reliable and robust STILL rental trucks.

Everything at the right time at the right place

From the early beginnings operating just a hot-air balloon, Schneider Promotion & Transport have developed to become a full service provider in the event sector in a matter of two decades. With over 1 000 events every year, Schneider is active in around 60 countries. Together with its clients and in mutual dialogue, Schneider plans and develops concepts and implements them into real buildings, products and services - on request even providing transport including the entire logistics. Schneider moves the racing cars in special transports, ships small goods with special handling requirements and forwards heavy loads. In addition, special lifting platforms and working equipment to place vehicles and exhibition stands at fair grounds are made available at the destination.

At the German Touring Car Masters (DTM) last year, Schneider planned and developed a new "Terminal Event Concept" together with Audi for supporters, press, customers and VIPs.

Key Account Team - A rental expert for every race track

The mobile buildings Audi Fantreff, Audi Sport, Audi Shop and Audi Lounge were set up, taken down and moved to each race. Schneider took over the complete interior construction of the terminals. Between the races, the components of the interior design are kept in modules stowed away in approximately 2 000 wooden boxes, which are stored in the Schneider central warehouse in Trier. The transport to the race tracks is carried out by articulated lorries. The project manager Sebastian Koster from Schneider Promotion & Transport attends every DTM race and is responsible for the erection and removal of the mobile terminal Audi Sport and to rent the trucks: "In order to be able to concentrate exclusively on the interior construction of the terminals at the different race tracks, the components and equipment are handled by lift trucks that we rent on the spot. It is not only the reliability of the trucks that is important for the erection and removal of the Audi terminals. With its network of branches and rental branches in Germany and abroad, STILL was able to quickly and efficiently provide the rented machines. Another advantage: STILL offers us only one central point of contact for all race tracks across Europe. In particular at the first DTM race in Moscow, Russia, the STILL Key Account Rental team took over the entire organisation in cooperation with its Moscow branch."

The responsible STILL Key Account Manager, Oliver Hoffmann, adds: "The bureaucratic burden was immense because all contract documents and delivery notes first had to be sent by courier and expedited services for certification in Germany, before the rental trucks could be delivered. With our rental fleet of over 24 000 units and our international Key Account team in Germany besides our subsidiaries in 18 countries, we are well equipped for such particularly challenging rental requests." In addition to the DTM race, Schneider has already hired rental trucks from STILL for the long-distance races of the "FIA World Endurance Championship" (WEC) in Spa, Belgium and Silverstone, Britain.

Reliable and robust truck technology

From compact to powerful – STILL offers economic and powerful diesel-electric truck models for every purpose. These trucks convince in particular with their intuitive operation and very comfortable driving characteristics. If the driver feels safe, he deploys the available capacity of the truck much more efficiently. If the truck is ergonomically designed and has intuitively arranged controls as well as a high-quality seat, which enables strainless work, the driver works motivated and concentrated even after hours. Each may be a small detail, but altogether they very well pay off. The ergonomic and safe design of the equipment directly leads to increased motivation and higher productivity.

At the first DTM race in Russia, for example, the Moscow branch supplied Schneider Promotion & Transport with three RX 70 trucks over a period of one and a half weeks to load the large wooden boxes and special pallets. These powerful diesel trucks are ideally suited for fast and precise work in confined spaces. With the extremely economical RX 70 Hybrid, five rental trucks were deployed for the DTM race at the Nürburgring and in Oscherleben, for example, and six rental trucks of the same series with a load capacity of 3.0 to 4.5 tons were deployed for the final event in Hockenheim. The triple mast of these trucks is ideal to lift the heavy furniture and other equipment to the upper floors of the two terminals Audi Lounge and Audi Sport. In addition, a full cabin protects the driver from wind and weather. For the transport of the differently-sized boxes and pallets, all rental trucks are quipped with side shifts and long forks - in addition, most of the trucks offer hydraulic fork adjustment. In Brands Hatch in England two RC40 converter trucks were rented for one week from UK STILL.

These two trucks are ideally equipped for the changing weather conditions in England with a full cabin and they are characterised by a robust and hydrodynamic power transmission. The drive of the RC40 trucks is extremely robust and reliable. Thanks to its large ground clearance, the STILL RC40 is tailor-made for transporting goods over medium to long distances.
